The diplomatic and business leaders, along with Rwandans and friends of Rwanda, gathered in Singapore to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Rwanda鈥檚 Liberation Day.
On July 5, 2024, around 300 people, including members of the diplomatic community, business leaders, Rwandans, and friends of Rwanda, gathered in Singapore to mark the 30th anniversary of Liberation Day. The event celebrated Rwanda鈥檚 rebirth and highlighted its development trajectory since the Rwandan Patriotic Army’s victory over the genocidal government three decades ago.
In his remarks, Rwanda鈥檚 High Commissioner in Singapore, Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, emphasized the significance of the victory, which set Rwanda on a path toward development and national aspirations. He acknowledged Singapore鈥檚 contributions to Rwanda鈥檚 post-genocide prosperity through bilateral trade, investments, and cooperation in key sectors such as financial technology, environment, information technology, education, and law enforcement and security.
Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Communications Information, and Health, Dr. Janil Puthucheary, praised Rwanda鈥檚 post-liberation journey as a beacon of hope for Rwandans and the global community. Quoting President Paul Kagame鈥檚 speech from Kwibuka30 in Kigali this April, Dr. Puthucheary highlighted the importance of unity as the foundation for Rwanda鈥檚 incredible journey of healing and transformation. He stated, 鈥淎 harmonious and united society is a fundamental condition for progress and prosperity. It is upon these shared values that Singapore and Rwanda have built a firm friendship.鈥
