The Malaysian High Commission’s Deepavali Reception at Rumah Malaysia showcased the spirit of unity and cultural richness through art, food, and traditions.

Guests arriving at the Malaysian High Commission’s Deepavali Reception on 22nd November 2024 were greeted with a breathtaking Rangoli, an ancient Indian folk art featuring intricate and colourful patterns drawn on the floor. Hosted at Rumah Malaysia, the residence of Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore, Dr. Dato’ Azfar Mohamad Mustafar, and his spouse, Mdm Che Norhayati Soib, the event embodied the spirit of Deepavali, symbolising good luck, prosperity, and the triumph of light over darkness.

From 3:00 to 7:00 PM, the High Commissioner welcomed a diverse crowd of diplomats, friends of Malaysia, and Malaysian citizens. The celebration was enriched by elements of Indian culture, including traditional attire worn by the High Commission staff, Indian-inspired music, and a feast featuring authentic flavours. The vibrant atmosphere reflected Malaysia’s multicultural heritage, which blends the traditions of its major racial groups.

Since his posting to Singapore in 2021, High Commissioner Dr. Dato’ Azfar Mohamad Mustafar has ensured that Malaysia’s diverse culture is celebrated through annual receptions for major festivals such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali. Commenting on the event, the High Commissioner said, “Malaysia is a multi-racial country, so we celebrate all festivals, including Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali.”

The celebration highlighted the shared values of harmony and inclusivity, showcasing the High Commission’s commitment to promoting cultural understanding and fostering ties with Singapore’s diplomatic and local communities.
