Argentina鈥檚 Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Mauricio Nine, recently toured Greenphyto, the Singapore-based agri-tech company that operates the world鈥檚 tallest indoor vertical hydroponic farm. The visit was hosted by Greenphyto founder Susan Chong and attended by Singapore Food Agency (SFA) Chief Executive Officer Damian Chan Chee Weng, underscoring the importance of technological innovation in strengthening global food security and sustainable agriculture.
During the visit, Ambassador Nine was introduced to Greenphyto鈥檚 state-of-the-art farming system, which integrates artificial intelligence, robotics and automation to cultivate leafy vegetables in a fully controlled indoor environment. Standing 23.3 metres tall, the facility has been recognised as the world鈥檚 tallest indoor vertical farm and is capable of producing up to 2,000 tonnes of vegetables annually at full capacity, while using land and resources far more efficiently than conventional farming methods.
Founder Susan Chong shared Greenphyto鈥檚 vision of developing climate-independent farming solutions that can support food resilience in land-scarce nations. The company鈥檚 proprietary hydroponic technology enables year-round production regardless of weather conditions, while its AI-driven systems continuously monitor crop health, optimise growing conditions and improve operational efficiency. Beyond producing fresh vegetables, Greenphyto also aims to export its farming technologies and digital solutions to international markets.
The presence of SFA CEO Damian Chan Chee Weng highlighted Singapore鈥檚 ongoing commitment to advancing agricultural innovation and enhancing food security through technology. Ambassador Nine鈥檚 visit reflects growing international interest in Singapore鈥檚 agri-tech ecosystem and presents opportunities for knowledge exchange between Argentina and Singapore, particularly in sustainable farming, food production and agricultural innovation.
