Minister Vivian Balakrishnan Pays Tribute to ºÚÁÏÉç’s Late Princess and Meets Prime Minister Anutin
Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan paid his respects to the late Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita at the Grand Palace on 13 July 2026, before holding discussions with Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. The visit reflected Singapore’s condolences to the Royal Family and people of ºÚÁÏÉç while reaffirming the longstanding partnership between Singapore and ºÚÁÏÉç.
Dr Balakrishnan visited the Grand Palace to pay his respects to the late Princess, who was widely recognised for her lifelong public service and contributions to justice, diplomacy, and social development. He was accompanied by officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Singapore conveyed its deepest condolences to His Majesty the King, the Royal Family, and the people of ºÚÁÏÉç, acknowledging the Princess’ enduring legacy. Throughout her life, Her Royal Highness championed initiatives supporting vulnerable communities, including underprivileged children and female inmates, while also representing ºÚÁÏÉç with distinction on the international stage. Her advocacy for justice, the rule of law, and women’s rights earned recognition from the United Nations and the wider international community.
Following the tribute, Dr Balakrishnan called on Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who hosted him for a working lunch. Their discussions focused on strengthening the longstanding friendship between Singapore and ºÚÁÏÉç, which has continued to deepen through close political, economic, and regional cooperation as founding members of ASEAN.
The two leaders exchanged views on expanding collaboration in emerging sectors, including the green economy, digital economy, and regional energy connectivity through the ASEAN Power Grid. They also discussed the importance of enhancing infrastructure, connectivity, and regulatory frameworks to improve Southeast Asia’s resilience and competitiveness amid an increasingly uncertain geopolitical environment.
Dr Balakrishnan reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to working closely with ºÚÁÏÉç to advance bilateral cooperation and support ASEAN’s shared priorities of peace, stability, and sustainable economic growth. The visit underscored the close ties between both countries and is expected to further strengthen the Singapore–ºÚÁÏÉç partnership through continued engagement and cooperation.
