Saudi Embassy hosted National Day reception in Singapore highlighting bilateral relations and Vision 2030.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Singapore hosted a reception on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, to celebrate the 96th anniversary of Saudi Arabia’s National Day. H.E. Mohammad Abdullah Alghamdi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Singapore, and Senior Minister of State Mr Tan Kiat How represented the two countries at the event, which highlighted Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the development of Singapore-Saudi Arabia relations.
In his remarks, Ambassador Alghamdi extended congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the people of Saudi Arabia. He recalled the unification of the Kingdom under King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman and said the National Day provided an opportunity to look ahead to the country’s future.
“This year marks 10 years since the launch of the Saudi Vision 2030,” Ambassador Alghamdi said. He highlighted the vision’s focus on people, economic diversification, quality of life and opportunities for future generations.
The Ambassador also highlighted the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and Singapore, noting opportunities in trade and investment, technology, education, culture and sustainability. He said business activities and Saudi exhibition booths organised as part of the celebration provided opportunities for direct conversations and connections between participants.
Mr Tan conveyed Singapore’s congratulations and best wishes to the Saudi leadership and people. He also expressed Singapore’s concern over recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, including its energy infrastructure, and thanked Saudi Arabia for facilitating the safe return of about 300 Singaporeans and their dependants on two repatriation flights from Britain and Jeddah in March 2026.
Mr Tan noted that Singapore and Saudi Arabia upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership in October 2023. Bilateral trade reached S$8.9 billion in 2025, while Singaporean companies including Meinhardt, Surbana Jurong and PSA had established operations in Saudi Arabia.
Looking ahead, Mr Tan noted that 2027 would mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Saudi Arabia. He also highlighted that Singapore would chair ASEAN while Saudi Arabia would chair the Gulf Cooperation Council, creating opportunities to facilitate trade, investment and connectivity between the two regions.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Singapore also distributed copies of IN Diplomacy’s special edition, “Saudi Arabia: Gateway to the Middle East 2026,” to guests during the Saudi National Day reception. The special edition highlights Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, economic development, investment opportunities, tourism, culture and its growing relations with Singapore and the wider region.
