German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Kazakhstan was Germany’s most important trading partner in Central Asia during the Kazakhstan-Germany Business Forum in Berlin on 29 September 2026. He highlighted the potential for further economic cooperation and the continued development of the strategic partnership between Germany and Kazakhstan.
President Steinmeier addressed the forum alongside Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as part of their bilateral engagement in Berlin. The event provided an opportunity to discuss economic relations and areas of cooperation between the two countries, with bilateral agreements scheduled to be signed following the meeting, according to the Akorda press service.
“Kazakhstan is our most important trading partner in Central Asia, and we continue to develop our cooperation. This is also evidenced by the bilateral agreements that will be signed following this meeting,” Steinmeier said.
The German President also outlined Germany’s approach to developing relations with emerging regional powers, including Kazakhstan.
“As Federal President, I am committed to developing ties with emerging regional powers, including Kazakhstan,” he said, adding that Germany could contribute capital, technology and industrial expertise to the partnership.
Steinmeier also pointed to Kazakhstan’s natural resources, growth potential and geographical position as factors supporting further economic engagement.
“Germany brings capital, technology, and industrial expertise. Kazakhstan possesses vast reserves of natural resources, enormous growth potential, and, of course, a strategic location between Europe and Asia,” he said.
The remarks came as Kazakhstan and Germany continued discussions on areas of bilateral economic cooperation. Earlier, President Tokayev had outlined promising areas for Kazakhstan-Germany cooperation.
The forum highlighted trade and economic engagement as key components of the bilateral relationship, with the two sides using the occasion to discuss cooperation and agreements involving Kazakhstan and Germany.
