The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) marks Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino 2026 with a week-long programme of concerts, awards, discussions and world premieres celebrating the richness, diversity and future of Filipino music.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is leading the nationwide celebration of Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) 2026, reaffirming its commitment to preserving, promoting and advancing the country’s rich musical heritage. Held in accordance with Proclamation No. 933, series of 2014, which designates the last week of July as Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino, this year’s programme showcases Filipino musical excellence through performances, recognition of outstanding artists, educational forums and the debut of new compositions.

The official opening, Musika at Himig Natin: Ang Konsiyerto, takes place on 28 July at the Metropolitan Theater (MET), bringing together some of the Philippines’ most acclaimed performers and ensembles. Audiences can look forward to performances by the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Singers, the UST Symphony Orchestra, the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir, PHILBANDA, Charina Balmores, Isay Alvarez, Reuben Laurente, Bituin Escalante, Robert Seña and Rachelle Gerodias. Together, they represent the diversity of Filipino musical traditions while highlighting both established and emerging talents.

Later that evening, the SUDI National Music Awards will honour exceptional contributions to the Philippine music industry. First launched in 2020, the awards recognise individuals and organisations whose work has significantly shaped the country’s musical landscape. This year’s ceremony will celebrate recipients from 2021 to 2024, including acclaimed artists Ben&Ben, Gary Valenciano, Regine Velasquez, SB19, Vincent De Jesus, Dr Marie Jocelyn Marfil, Alfonso ‘Coke’ Bolipata, Maria Alexandra Chua, the UST Singers, The New Cebu Arts Foundation, Inc., and the MSU-IIT Integrated Performing Arts Guild. The National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) Foundation, Inc. will also receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Expanding this year’s programme, the inaugural MusikaTalakayan sa LMP 2026 will be held on 30 and 31 July at Centro de Turismo in Intramuros. Bringing together musicians, scholars, educators and cultural practitioners, the conference will examine Philippine musical heritage, education, documentation and the role of the creative economy in strengthening the local music industry. Each day’s discussions will be complemented by Pagtatanghal: Musika at Tinig sa Mas Malapit na Espasyo, an intimate concert showcasing the expressive depth and artistry of Filipino music in a more personal performance setting.

The celebration concludes on 1 August with the Bagong Musika at Himig Natin: NCCA Composition Prize World Premiere Series at the MET Ballroom. Featuring the first public performances of winning entries from the NCCA Composition Prize, the concert will introduce new works spanning chamber music, handbell choir, solo organ, solo piano, solo rondalla, solo string and solo wind categories. Through this comprehensive programme, Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino 2026 celebrates the traditions that define Filipino music, honours the artists who continue to enrich it, and supports the next generation of composers and performers shaping the country’s vibrant musical future.

International specialists advance neurocritical care collaboration in Indonesia

Indonesia’s West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province reaffirmed its commitment to advancing healthcare through international collaboration with the opening of the 9th International Joint Symposium Indonesia–Singapore Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care at Aruna Senggigi Resort & Convention, Lombok.

The symposium was officially opened on behalf of Dr. H. Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, Governor of West Nusa Tenggara, by Dr. Lalu Hamzi Fikri, Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Health Office.

In a message delivered by Dr. Fikri, Governor Iqbal expressed appreciation to the Indonesian Society of Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care (INA-SNACC), Indonesia, and its international partners for selecting Lombok as the host of the scientific forum.

“This forum is not merely a platform for sharing knowledge but also a strategic opportunity to strengthen international collaboration in delivering better healthcare services for our communities,” the Governor said.

Held under the theme “One Team, One Brain: Building Excellence in Collaboration for Better Outcomes,” the symposium brings together neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care specialists from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, India, ºÚÁÏÉç, and several other countries to exchange research findings, clinical experience, best practices, and the latest advances in neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care.

The West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government said developing skilled healthcare professionals, strengthening referral hospitals, and expanding partnerships with national and international institutions remain key priorities in improving the quality, accessibility, and competitiveness of healthcare services across the province.

Beyond its scientific programme, the symposium reinforces Lombok’s growing reputation as a destination for healthcare conferences and medical meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE), bringing together healthcare, education, and tourism. The event is also expected to generate positive economic benefits by supporting the hospitality, transportation, culinary, creative economy, and tourism sectors.

The US-ASEAN Business Council’s 2026 Digital Economy Mission brought leading technology companies to Jakarta for high-level discussions with Indonesian policymakers, reinforcing public-private collaboration on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and regulatory development.

The US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation during its 2026 Digital Economy Mission, held in Jakarta from 21 to 22 July. The mission convened senior government officials and representatives from leading global technology companies to strengthen dialogue on Indonesia’s digital economy priorities and explore opportunities for deeper public-private collaboration as the country advances its ambition to become a regional digital hub.

As part of the programme, USABC hosted a dinner dialogue with Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Mr. Nezar Patria, to discuss the country’s information and communications technology (ICT) priorities and the role of industry in accelerating digital development. The delegation also participated in an inter-ministerial dialogue involving senior officials from the Ministry of National Development Planning, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, and the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs. The discussions highlighted the importance of a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to modernising Indonesia’s digital economy and identified areas for continued cooperation.

The mission further included bilateral meetings with key Indonesian institutions, including the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Bank Indonesia, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Ministry of Industry, and the United States Embassy in Jakarta. Discussions focused on several strategic issues shaping Indonesia’s digital future, including trusted artificial intelligence ecosystems, cybersecurity resilience, online safety, secure digital infrastructure, connectivity, and cross-border data flows.

Mario Masaya, USABC Vice President for Research, Technology and Financial Services, said Indonesia is among the world’s fastest-growing digital economies, with current regulatory reforms expected to shape the country’s digital landscape for years to come. He noted that widespread adoption of trusted digital technologies across businesses and government institutions will be essential to unlocking the sector’s potential, with Indonesia’s digital economy projected to expand from approximately US$100 billion to as much as US$360 billion by 2030.

Echoing this commitment, Mr. Seow Hiong Goh, Chair of USABC’s ICT Committee and Executive Director of Global Policy & Government Affairs for the Asia Pacific region at Cisco Systems, emphasised the importance of sustained engagement between government and industry. She said collaboration on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital connectivity will help establish a secure and resilient digital ecosystem that supports Indonesia’s long-term economic growth. Senior policymakers and leading academics from Asia, the United States and Europe convened in Beijing to develop practical policy responses to today’s evolving global challenges. The conference focused on strengthening international cooperation amid geopolitical uncertainty, technological transformation and economic fragmentation.

Leading policymakers, scholars and international experts from Asia, the United States and Europe gathered in Beijing on 21–22 July 2026 for the conference A World in Flux: Finance, Technology, Geopolitics, and Global Cooperation. Jointly organised by the East Asian Institute (EAI) at the National University of Singapore, the National School of Development (NSD) at Peking University, and the Rajawali Foundation Institute for Asia at Harvard Kennedy School, the event sought to advance practical, evidence-based policy solutions to the complex challenges reshaping the global landscape.

Held against the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions, rapid technological advances and increasing economic fragmentation, the two-day conference centred on actionable responses rather than theoretical discussions. Participants examined issues including the future of the international economic order, artificial intelligence and technological innovation, trade and supply-chain resilience, energy security, critical resources, and the role of international cooperation in promoting global stability and sustainable growth.

The conference officially opened with keynote remarks by Mr. Liao Min, Vice Minister of Finance of the People’s Republic of China, who highlighted China’s commitment to high-quality development while underscoring the importance of continued dialogue and international cooperation during a period of global uncertainty. The Beijing meeting marks the third instalment of the conference series, following previous editions held in Singapore in January 2025 and at Harvard Kennedy School in Boston in December 2025, reinforcing the partnership as a trusted platform for constructive policy exchanges.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Professor Alfred Schipke, Director of the East Asian Institute at the National University of Singapore, stressed that sustained dialogue is essential to developing practical solutions that enhance resilience and cooperation. Professor Huang Yiping, Dean of the National School of Development at Peking University, emphasised that many of today’s economic and technological issues transcend national borders and require rigorous, research-driven collaboration. Professor Anthony Saich, Director of the Rajawali Foundation Institute for Asia at Harvard Kennedy School, added that academic institutions provide trusted spaces where evidence-based discussions can help inform policymaking on complex global issues.

Beyond the conference series, the three institutions continue to deepen their collaboration through joint research projects, policy publications, workshops and academic exchanges. Envoys reaffirm commitment to expanding Indonesia–Peru cooperation.

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore has commemorated the 10th anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award, recognising the landmark ruling as a defining milestone in the interpretation of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The Embassy joined the Department of Foreign Affairs, other Philippine Government agencies, the global community, and Filipinos around the world in reflecting on the Award’s enduring significance.

Issued on 12 July 2016, the Arbitral Award has become an important reference point for maritime rights, environmental responsibilities, and the peaceful settlement of disputes under international law. Over the past decade, it has continued to serve as a guide for promoting a rules-based international order and reinforcing the role of legal mechanisms in addressing maritime issues.

Marking the anniversary, the Embassy emphasised that the Award represents more than a legal decision. It stands as a lasting legacy that affirms the rights and dignity of the Filipino people while underscoring the importance of respecting international law. The Embassy also highlighted the Award’s relevance to ASEAN, noting that it contributes to regional efforts to promote peace, stability, and cooperation.

The BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting concluded in Kochi with the adoption of the first-ever Joint Statement under the Women Track and the endorsement of two India-led initiatives to strengthen collaboration on women’s empowerment across BRICS member countries.

The BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting concluded in Kochi under India’s BRICS Chairmanship 2026, delivering a landmark outcome with the adoption of the first-ever Joint Statement under the BRICS Women Track and the endorsement of two new India-led initiatives to strengthen cooperation on women’s empowerment.

Held from 6 to 9 July, the four-day engagement comprised the BRICS Women Working Group Meeting and the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting. Ministers, Deputy Ministers and senior officials from across the BRICS family gathered to discuss shared priorities aimed at promoting gender equality and strengthening women’s empowerment.

A landmark achievement of this year’s Ministerial Meeting was the adoption of the first-ever Joint Statement under the BRICS Women Track, reflecting the collective commitment of member countries to deepen cooperation in advancing women-led development across social, economic and institutional spheres.

Speaking at the closing session, India’s Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Annapurna Devi, highlighted that while BRICS member countries represent diverse geographical, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, they face many common challenges relating to women’s empowerment. She emphasised the importance of the BRICS Women Ministerial Track as a platform for dialogue, collaboration and the exchange of experiences to address these shared priorities.

Closing the meeting, Mr. Anil Malik, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, described the adoption of the Joint Statement as a tangible demonstration of the shared determination among BRICS members to address common challenges through collective action.

The meeting also endorsed two new initiatives proposed by India to strengthen long-term cooperation under the BRICS Women Track.

The first, the BRICS Digital Repository of Best Practices, will function as a shared platform for documenting and exchanging successful policies, programmes and innovations related to women’s empowerment across member countries.

The second initiative, the BRICS Digital Capacity Building Guidelines, aims to strengthen institutional collaboration, encourage knowledge sharing and enhance capacity-building efforts to accelerate women’s empowerment through sustained cooperation.

Alongside the ministerial sessions, India organised a series of thematic panel discussions involving policymakers, experts, practitioners and development partners. The discussions explored key issues including digital inclusion, women’s entrepreneurship, financial empowerment, climate resilience, food security and nutrition, providing opportunities for participants to share experiences and identify practical approaches to common challenges.

Delegates also visited an exhibition highlighting India’s women-led development initiatives across multiple sectors. The showcase featured programmes led by various ministries and departments, including rural livelihood initiatives such as SARAS and Lakhpati Didi, women’s participation in sports through ASMITA, initiatives supporting women in STEM, financial inclusion programmes, as well as flagship schemes of the Ministry of Women and Child Development including SHE-Box, One Stop Centres, and the Women’s Helpline.

The conclusion of the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting reaffirmed the commitment of member countries to strengthen institutional partnerships, expand knowledge exchange, promote best practices and advance women-led development as a key driver of inclusive, resilient and sustainable growth.

The Singapore Night Festival (SNF) returns for its 17th edition from 21 August to 5 September 2026, transforming the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct into a vibrant celebration of myths, legends and cultural storytelling from Singapore and across Southeast Asia.

Recognised as Singapore’s largest nocturnal festival, this year’s edition will transform the Bras Basah.Bugis (BBB) precinct into a vibrant cultural playground through immersive artworks, projection mapping, performances and interactive experiences inspired by regional myths and legends.

A key addition for 2026 is the introduction of the Museum Zone, centred around the National Museum of Singapore, the Children’s Museum Singapore and neighbouring heritage spaces. The new festival hub joins three returning zones spanning the wider Bras Basah.Bugis district, each presenting distinctive programmes that celebrate the precinct’s rich heritage through arts, culture and community engagement.

Across three weekends, festivalgoers can explore a diverse programme of projection mapping, large-scale art installations, live performances, experiential trails, creative markets and festival villages offering food and retail experiences.

One of the festival’s headline attractions is the inaugural MALAM Projection Mapping Competition, which provides a platform for emerging artists, students and creative collectives from across Southeast Asia. Supported by Epson, the competition attracted nearly 50 submissions from around the region, with the top 20 entries to be projected onto The Cathay during the opening week of the festival. Five winning works will remain on display throughout the festival.

Singapore Night Festival 2026 will also present ALIGHT 2.0, HeritageSG’s thought leadership platform dedicated to projection mapping and light-based art. The conference will bring together artists and creative practitioners from across Southeast Asia to discuss the evolving relationship between art, technology and public spaces through keynote sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities.

Among the featured speakers are Michiyuki Ishita, Founder and General Producer of the internationally recognised 1minute Projection Mapping Competition and Representative Director of the Projection Mapping Association of Japan, Malaysian new media artist Abdul Shakir, and Indonesian multimedia collective The Fox, The Folks.

Festival Director Qazim Karim said Singapore Night Festival continues to evolve beyond spectacular light displays by creating shared cultural experiences that celebrate the region’s creative talent.

He noted that the enthusiastic response to the inaugural MALAM Projection Mapping Competition reflects growing regional interest in participating in Singapore’s premier night festival. Through this year’s Myths and Legends theme, the festival aims to inspire curiosity, strengthen community connections and reinforce Singapore Night Festival’s position as one of Southeast Asia’s leading cultural festivals.

Among the signature experiences this year is Tales of Earth and Sea, an immersive projection mapping showcase at the National Museum of Singapore created by Indonesian multimedia collective The Fox, The Folks. The work reimagines local folklore through striking visuals accompanied by an original cross-border soundtrack by Singapore’s music collective Artusik and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia. During the opening weekend, audiences can also experience the Southeast Asian debut of Birdmen by Dutch performance company Close-Act Theatre, featuring illuminated stilt performers roaming alongside the projection display.

Visitors can also embark on The Lost Legacy of Fort Canning: The Forbidden Hill, a 70-minute immersive night trail through Fort Canning Park that explores the myths surrounding Bukit Larangan. Combining atmospheric soundscapes with live traditional Malay dance, the experience transports audiences to the world of 14th-century Singapura.

Elsewhere across the festival, historic and public spaces will be reimagined through large-scale installations inspired by mythology, folklore and environmental themes.

At Armenian Street Lawn, creative studio TELL YOUR CHILDREN presents Vikings of the Tropics, a nautical installation inspired by the maritime legends of the Bugis people and the epic La Galigo, highlighting Singapore’s historical role as a regional trading port.

Capitol Singapore Outdoor Plaza will host Once Upon A Time, a community artwork by weaver and upcycling artist Natalia Tan created with students from local schools. Constructed from textile waste, retired uniforms and recycled fabrics, the installation features 30 handcrafted animal sculptures inspired by regional folktales including Sang Kancil and Sang Buaya, while encouraging public participation in biodiversity awareness.

Singapore Management University Campus Green will showcase several installations, including The Dragon’s Tooth: A Legend of Becoming Light by Starlight Alchemy, You and I, Believing… by the Yellow Ribbon Community Arts Festival Committee 2026, and Traces by Filipino artist Isaiah Cacnio, inspired by the legend surrounding the historic Singapore Stone.

Festival installations will also extend to nearby shopping destinations. At Raffles City Singapore, local artist Ching Kai presents Inter-Light, an interactive work inspired by Singapore’s multicultural traditions and street performances. Funan will feature Rising of Sister Islands by SERIAL CO_, exploring one of Singapore’s best-known island legends through immersive storytelling.

At Plaza Singapura, UNIPLAY presents THE BLOOMING HEARTS FORTUNE MERLION, a colourful installation promoting plastic recycling through a Merlion sculpture made from recycled materials, while Bugis Street Art Lane will be transformed into Stormy Straits, an immersive seafaring experience by the Melting Po(r)t Collective, inspired by Singapore’s maritime heritage.

Meanwhile, ART-ZOO, in collaboration with the National Library Board, presents Lovebug, a whimsical large-scale installation celebrating local myths inspired by native wildlife and plants, including the endangered Raffles’ Banded Langur and the saga seed.

Beyond the official festival programme, visitors can also explore four installations presented under the inaugural Light Together Bras Basah.Bugis (LTB) initiative, which celebrates National Day through playful artworks inspired by local superstitions and everyday myths.

Most Singapore Night Festival 2026 programmes will be free to attend. Supported by Official Sponsors Accenture and Adobe, the festival’s interactive website will feature personalised visitor trails and an interactive map when it goes live during the festival period, with additional programme and ticketing information to be released progressively from 3 August 2026.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has opened applications for its 2027 Competitive Grants Program, accompanied by a nationwide roadshow to help prospective applicants prepare their proposals and navigate the application process.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has officially opened its Call for Proposals for the Calendar Year 2027 Competitive Grants Program, inviting artists, cultural workers, researchers, local government units, educational institutions, indigenous peoples’ organisations, non-government organisations, and other cultural stakeholders to apply for funding that supports Philippine arts and culture.

Anchored on Republic Act No. 7356, the Competitive Grants Program is one of the NCCA’s flagship initiatives under the National Endowment Fund for Culture and the Arts (NEFCA). The programme provides financial assistance to projects that preserve, promote, develop, and disseminate Filipino arts, cultural heritage, traditional practices, and creative expression while strengthening cultural communities across the country.

For the 2027 funding cycle, the NCCA is encouraging project proposals that respond to the country’s evolving cultural landscape while remaining aligned with the strategic priorities of its four Subcommissions: Arts, Cultural Heritage, Cultural Dissemination, and Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts. Through the programme, the Commission aims to support initiatives that reinforce national identity, foster inclusive cultural development, and improve public access to arts and culture.

To be eligible for funding, applicants must first obtain NCCA accreditation and must not have any unliquidated grants or derogatory records with the Commission or any government agency. Complete project proposals may be submitted via email or courier.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 31 August 2026 at 11:59 PM (Philippine Standard Time).

To support prospective applicants, the NCCA will also conduct a series of nationwide Competitive Grants Program Roadshows, offering orientation sessions and technical assistance on proposal writing, eligibility requirements, funding priorities, and the overall application process. The initiative aims to make the grants programme more accessible to cultural practitioners and organisations across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The regional roadshows will take place in Baguio City on 21 July 2026 for the Luzon cluster, Bacolod City on 27 July 2026 for the Visayas cluster, and Davao City on 28 July 2026 for the Mindanao cluster. An online roadshow will also be organised on 21 July 2026 for applicants based in the National Capital Region.

The NCCA said that the exact venues for the in-person roadshows, together with QR codes for pre-registration, will be announced through its official Facebook page. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the programme guidelines, proposal categories, and documentary requirements before submitting their applications.

The Red Sea Fund has opened applications for the fourth cycle of its Post-Production Support Programme, offering financial assistance to filmmakers from Saudi Arabia, the Arab world, Africa, and Asia to complete their film projects. Applications will be accepted until August 8.

Administered by the Red Sea Film Foundation, the programme provides post-production funding for feature films, documentaries, and animated productions that have completed principal photography. Eligible projects can receive support for editing, sound design, colour grading, visual effects, and other finishing work needed before release.

The initiative aims to strengthen independent filmmaking while helping regional productions reach international audiences through film festivals, theatrical distribution, and streaming platforms. By supporting projects at a critical stage of production, the foundation seeks to improve the global visibility of films from emerging creative industries.

Eligible submissions must originate from Saudi Arabia, Arab countries, Africa, or Asia and demonstrate strong artistic quality, production value, and international distribution potential. An independent panel of regional and global film experts will evaluate applications based on creative excellence, technical readiness, and overall impact.

The Red Sea Film Foundation said the programme forms part of its long-term strategy to develop Saudi Arabia’s film industry while supporting filmmakers across the wider region. Through funding initiatives, industry partnerships, and talent development programmes, the foundation continues to expand opportunities for creators and strengthen the regional cinema ecosystem.

Since its launch, the Red Sea Fund has supported numerous award-winning films that have screened at leading international film festivals, helping filmmakers secure wider recognition and distribution. The latest funding round reinforces Saudi Arabia’s growing role as a regional hub for film production and creative industries while encouraging diverse stories from across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
