Co-organised by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and the European External Action Service, the workshop focused on national and regional approaches to incident management affecting ICT-enabled critical infrastructure.

Senior ministers from Singapore and Australia met in Adelaide for the Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee, where they discussed priority areas of bilateral cooperation. The meeting resulted in the signing of an agreement to assure the free flow of essential supplies and fuel, alongside a renewed commitment to deepen defence cooperation.

Representing Australia were Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong, Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, and Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell. The Singapore delegation comprised Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing, and Minister for Manpower and Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology Tan See Leng.

Minister Wong described Australia and Singapore as having one of the region’s closest and most trusted partnerships. She highlighted the signing of the agreement on the free flow of essential supplies and fuel and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to strengthening defence cooperation.

Singapore and Australia signed a new Protocol on Economic Resilience and Essential Supplies during the 15th Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee (SAJMC) in Adelaide.

Singapore and Australia strengthened their strategic partnership during the 15th Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee (SAJMC), held in Adelaide on 27 July 2026, with the signing of the Protocol on Economic Resilience and Essential Supplies under the Singapore-Australia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA). The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation on energy security, essential supply chains, and economic resilience while ensuring trade continues during periods of disruption.

The Singapore delegation was led by Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, and Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology Dr Tan See Leng. They met with Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Richard Marles, Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong, and Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell. The meeting also marked the 30th anniversary of the SAJMC, established in 1996 as the highest-level platform for bilateral cooperation on foreign affairs, defence, and trade.

Alongside the economic protocol, both countries also witnessed the signing of the Australia-Singapore Industrial Base Resiliency Arrangement, further strengthening cooperation between their defence industries and supporting more resilient supply chains.

Speaking at the joint press conference, Dr Tan said trust remained the cornerstone of the bilateral relationship. “Today’s signing of the Protocol on Economic Resilience and Essential Supplies… reaffirms our shared commitment to keeping essential goods flowing during times of disruption,” he said. He added that the agreement reflected the “deep reservoir of strategic trust” between the two countries and their shared commitment to keeping trade “open, reliable and resilient.”

Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles described the relationship as one underpinned by “deep strategic trust”, adding, “Today we are growing our already strong defence partnership even further by strengthening cooperation between our defence forces and our defence industries.”

Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the Protocol would help both countries “respond together to disruptions and maintain access to the supplies our economies depend on,” while Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell described it as “an important step to ensure Australia has what it needs to keep moving in the face of global supply chain disruptions.”

New roadmap strengthens India Australia sports partnership

India and Australia have launched the India-Australia Sports Collaboration Roadmap, a new framework aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation in sports, athlete development, research and investment under the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The roadmap was unveiled at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during a joint visit by Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Australia the Hon. Anthony Albanese, and Premier of Victoria the Hon. Jacinta Allan. Australian sporting figures Mr. Steve Waugh and Ms. Lisa Sthalekar also attended the event, highlighting the strong people-to-people connections between the two countries.

Building on the 2023 Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Sports, the roadmap identifies five priority areas: capacity building, sports science and technology, major sporting events, sports industry and investment, and women’s sport.

Key initiatives include coach and educator exchanges, collaboration on high performance sports centres, joint university research, expanded para sport cooperation, and an India-Australia Youth Sports Festival. The roadmap also supports closer collaboration ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In the sports industry, India and Australia will encourage partnerships in sports manufacturing, broadcasting, event management, innovation and investment. India and Australia announced a series of partnership outcomes during the Third India-Australia Annual Summit between Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, further strengthening the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across defence, energy security, cyber cooperation and critical technologies.

Among the key outcomes was the India-Australia Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to enhancing defence collaboration, maritime security, defence industry engagement and regular strategic dialogue.
