Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Singaporean officials to strengthen bilateral cooperation and explore trade and investment opportunities.

Singapore welcomed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on his first official visit to the Republic, marking a new chapter in the longstanding relationship between Singapore and Canada. Prime Minister Carney, who had previously interacted with Singaporean leaders in his earlier roles, was warmly received as both countries reaffirmed their commitment to renewing friendship and deepening bilateral cooperation.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who also serves as Singapore’s Minister for Finance, and Prime Minister Carney held wide-ranging discussions on key global developments and regional dynamics. Both leaders exchanged views on economic resilience, the importance of maintaining an open and rules-based trading system, and their shared support for free trade and multilateralism in an increasingly complex global environment.

Prime Minister Wong welcomed Canada’s interest in establishing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with ASEAN, noting that such a partnership would further enhance economic ties and create new opportunities for collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region. The leaders agreed that deeper engagement between Canada and ASEAN would contribute to regional stability and inclusive growth.

In addition to official talks, Prime Minister Carney met with Singaporean business representatives and international investors, exploring trade and investment opportunities in areas such as innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation. These engagements highlighted the potential for increased cooperation between Canadian and Singaporean companies, particularly in sectors aligned with both countries’ economic priorities.

Singapore reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Canada through continued dialogue, business exchanges, and strategic cooperation across key areas. A diplomatic farewell was held for H.E. Jean-Dominique Ieraci and Mdm Chantal Chastenay, celebrating Canada–Singapore cooperation across trade, sustainability, and innovation.

SINGAPORE, 24 June 2025 – Members of the diplomatic corps, diplomats, and close friends of Canada gathered at Raffles Avenue for a farewell reception in honour of H.E. Jean-Dominique Ieraci, Canada’s High Commissioner to Singapore, and Mdm Chantal Chastenay. The evening was marked by speeches celebrating the couple’s contributions to the growing partnership between Canada and Singapore.

Dean of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps in Singapore, H.E. Agustin Garcia-Lopez Loaeza, delivered a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on Ambassador Ieraci’s long-standing service and drawing symbolic parallels with the Thunderbird—featured on the totem pole unveiled at Gardens by the Bay just days earlier to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Representing wisdom, transformation, and protection, the Thunderbird was likened to the spirit with which Ambassador Ieraci served during his term.

Ambassador Ieraci began his posting in Singapore in August 2021, having previously held the same role from 2005 to 2008. His diplomatic career spans several global postings, including Mexico, France, Syria, and South Korea, with expertise in economic and commercial diplomacy. Mdm Chantal Chastenay has also held significant roles within Canada’s diplomatic service, including Deputy Head of Mission to Mexico and various leadership positions in Ottawa and Paris.

Under Ambassador Ieraci’s leadership, Canada–Singapore relations were advanced across multiple fronts. These include bilateral cooperation on climate change, cybersecurity, gender equality, and digital innovation, as well as enhanced engagement with ASEAN, APEC, and regional dialogues. His tenure also saw efforts to foster deeper ties in education, science, and green technology.

Historically, Canada and Singapore have maintained a close partnership since establishing diplomatic ties in 1965. Today, the two countries work together in key sectors such as trade and investment, education, defence, science and technology, and environmental sustainability. Singapore remains one of Canada’s most strategic partners in Southeast Asia.

During the reception, colleagues and friends reflected on Ambassador Ieraci’s approachable leadership and ability to build bridges. He was credited with creating new opportunities for bilateral growth through innovation and people-to-people exchanges.

As he and Mdm Chastenay prepare for their next diplomatic chapter, the farewell reception served as both a celebration of past achievements and a hopeful look ahead. Attendees extended their appreciation and best wishes, recognising the legacy of friendship and collaboration that the couple leaves behind.

Prime Minister Carney unveils agenda focused on security, energy transition, and global partnerships

OTTAWA, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced the core priorities that will guide the G7 Leaders’ Summit, set to take place in Kananaskis, Alberta from 15 to 17 June 2025. This marks Canada’s seventh presidency of the G7.

With a focus on building stronger economies, the 2025 Summit will concentrate on three strategic pillars: protecting communities and enhancing global security; accelerating the digital and energy transition through critical mineral and AI cooperation; and strengthening international partnerships to drive infrastructure investment and create quality jobs.

The Summit will also address pressing geopolitical challenges, including support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and fostering broader cooperation with like-minded partners beyond the G7.

The gathering will be held on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Stoney Nakoda Nations, the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Otipemisiwak Métis People—recognising the deep cultural heritage of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta.

The Canada-in-Asia Conference 2024 concluded with a focus on agrifood and climate solutions, highlighting collaboration opportunities between Canada and Asia in addressing global challenges

THE Canada-in-Asia Conference 2024 (CIAC2024) concluded after hosting two thematic conferences back-to-back in Singapore: CIAC2024: Agri-food on 26 to 27th February 2024 and CIAC2024: Climate Solutions on 28-29th February 2024. Organised by the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) in partnership with Universities Canada, the conferences aimed to bring together experts, investors, policymakers, researchers, business leaders, and innovators from Asia and Canada. These gatherings provided a platform for exchanging perspectives, knowledge, and ideas while fostering collaborative partnerships in the critical sectors of agrifood and climate solutions.

The CIAC2024 conferences were bridged by the CIAC2024: Gala Dinner on the night of 27th February 2024, where all conference delegates were automatically registered. The dinner also welcomed registered guests not attending either CIAC2024 conference, offering a networking opportunity for Canada-connected individuals, organisations, and institutions across Asia. The annual CIAC: Gala Dinner served as a celebration of Canada-in-Asia, highlighting the importance of building networks and partnerships in the region.

The conferences featured a diverse range of discussions and presentations, with speakers delving into topics such as sustainable agriculture, food security, renewable energy, and climate resilience. Ms. Grace Fu’s presence and address at the event underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing pressing global challenges. The conferences highlighted Canada’s leadership in innovative solutions and its commitment to working with partners in Asia to tackle shared issues.

Overall, the Canada-in-Asia Conference 2024 was a resounding success, providing a platform for meaningful discussions, networking, and collaboration. The event showcased the importance of international cooperation in addressing complex challenges and laid the groundwork for future partnerships between Canada and Asia in the agrifood and climate sectors.

THIS week from the 4th to 6th of April 2021, Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Calgary will be making a stop at Changi Naval Base, Singapore as it makes its way through the Indo-Pacific and Middle Eastern regions on Operations PROJECTION and ARTEMIS. These operations are intended to further strengthen Canada’s relations with regional partners and contribute to maritime security and stability.

Canada and Singapore enjoy strong and friendly bilateral relations. With over 125 Canadian companies located in Singapore, and bilateral trade totaling more than $2 billion a year, the commercial relationship is particularly robust. Both countries are signatories to the recent CPTPP. Shared interests also make Singapore and Canada natural partners on important global issues, such as climate change and regional security.

The two countries also work closely together in regional and international organizations, given Canada’s status as a Dialogue Partner with ASEAN; our collaboration in in APEC and the WTO; as well as through Singapore’s contributions as an observer to the Arctic Council. In defence relations, Canada and Singapore have increased their engagement with bilateral defence talks and the exchange of personnel on leadership and unique skills courses.

The two countries work closely together in regional and international organizations, given Canada’s status as a Dialogue Partner with ASEAN; our collaboration in in APEC and the WTO; as well as through Singapore’s contributions as an observer to the Arctic Council.

During a regular deployment, HMCS Calgary would stop for a longer period of time and the crew would get off the ship, however, extra precautions are being taken during this visit because of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the visit, all of the crew will remain on ship as a protection measure against COVID-19.

Operations PROJECTION and ARTEMIS demonstrate Canada’s ongoing commitment to global peace and security. The deployment of HMCS Calgary to the Indo-Pacific and Middle East regions contributes to making the world more secure and stable and shows how the Royal Canadian Navy is ready to support Canada’s interests around the world.
