The award-winning choir from Olomouc celebrated musical excellence and cultural exchange through performances and school engagement in Singapore.

The Czech Children’s Choir Campanella (ZUŠ Campanella) from Olomouc concluded a memorable visit to Singapore after winning two gold medals at the Singapore International Choral Festival 2026. Organised by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Singapore, the visit featured public performances and educational exchanges that showcased Czech musical heritage.

One of the highlights was a concert at Punggol Regional Library, where the choir presented a programme of Czech and international songs to audiences of all ages. The performance offered visitors an opportunity to experience Czech culture through music.

During the concert intermission, visitors explored a selection of Czech children’s books and voted for their favourite title. The books have since been added to the Punggol Regional Library collection, allowing readers to continue discovering Czech literature.

Before returning to the Czech Republic, ZUŠ Campanella visited Christ Church Secondary School, where they performed several songs, interacted with Singaporean students, and gained first hand insight into Singapore’s school environment.

In conversation with IN Diplomacy, Czech Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Dana Baschová discusses the growing partnership between the Czech Republic and Singapore

During an introductory call with Ms Nomita Dhar, Editor-in-Chief of IN Diplomacy, the Czech Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Dana Baschová, spoke about the growing relationship between the Czech Republic and Singapore. The discussion highlighted cooperation in areas such as trade, technology and cultural exchange, as well as the renewed presence of the Czech Embassy in Singapore.

A Czech embassy was first established in Singapore in 1996 but closed in 2008 as part of diplomatic restructuring. For more than a decade, relations were managed through the Czech Embassy in Jakarta with support from an honorary consulate in Singapore. The reopening of the embassy reflects Czechia’s renewed commitment to strengthening ties with Singapore and the wider Southeast Asian region.

Today, the mission is led by Ambassador Baschová, who presented her credentials to Singapore’s President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, in September 2025. Prior to her appointment, she served as Director of the Department of the Americas at the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Beyond diplomacy, Czechia is expanding its economic and technological cooperation with Singapore. Known for its strengths in advanced engineering, aerospace, cybersecurity and digital technologies, Czech companies increasingly see Singapore as a gateway to Southeast Asia. Cultural initiatives and educational exchanges organised by the embassy also continue to strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Even the Czech national emblem shares an interesting similarity with Singapore’s identity. It features the historic Bohemian lion, which resembles Singapore’s own lion symbol, represented by the famous Merlion. Although they come from different histories, both symbols represent national pride, strength and heritage.
