During the meeting, Mr. Vincent Teo, Assistant Director for Outreach and Admissions at Nanyang Business School, presented the school’s scholarship opportunities for mid-level public sector executives from ASEAN Member States. The programmes are designed to strengthen leadership capabilities, strategic thinking, and management expertise among government officials in the region.

The discussion highlighted the important role of higher education in enhancing public sector capacity and fostering stronger regional cooperation. By providing access to internationally recognised academic programmes, Nanyang Business School aims to equip ASEAN officials with the knowledge and skills needed to address increasingly complex policy and governance challenges.

The Philippines commemorated the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) by hosting a series of high-level events in Manila on 24 July 2026, officially designated as ‘TAC Day’. Organised as part of the country’s role as ASEAN Chair, the celebrations underscored the treaty’s enduring significance as a cornerstone of regional peace, stability and cooperation.

The commemorative programme brought together senior representatives of the High Contracting Parties to the TAC from across ASEAN and beyond. A key highlight was the signing ceremony for the Instruments of Accession of four new High Contracting Parties, reflecting the treaty’s continued appeal and growing international recognition as a framework for peaceful relations and dialogue.

Another major feature of the occasion was a high-level conference that convened policymakers, diplomats and regional stakeholders to discuss the TAC’s contribution to fostering mutual respect, non-interference, peaceful dispute settlement and cooperation among nations. Participants also exchanged views on the treaty’s evolving role in addressing emerging regional and global challenges while preserving ASEAN’s centrality.

Originally signed in 1976, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation has become one of ASEAN’s most important legal instruments, providing guiding principles for interstate relations in the region. Fourteen young Filipino students earned 19 awards at the 2026 Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) in Singapore, highlighting the Philippines’ continued success in international mathematics competitions. The team’s outstanding performance was led by 12-year-old Lebron James B. Pornillos, who emerged as the Overall Runner-up in the Grade 6 category.

The Philippine contingent delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC), securing a total of 19 awards during the competition held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore from 17 to 21 July 2026. The team, consisting of 14 young Filipino students, demonstrated exceptional mathematical ability and teamwork across both the individual and team events. The awards ceremony on 22 July 2026 was attended by Second Secretary and Consul Renee Gayle M. Chua, Head of the Cultural and Filipino Community Section of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore.

Competing in the Math Olympiad (Individual), Math Warriors, and Math Mind Master categories, the Philippine team brought home an impressive medal haul comprising six gold medals, six silver medals, six bronze medals, and one Honourable Mention. Their achievements reflected not only strong analytical and problem-solving skills but also the dedication and preparation of the students, their coaches, and supporting institutions.

Among the standout performers was 12-year-old Lebron James B. Pornillos from General Trias City, Cavite, who emerged as the Overall Runner-up in the Grade 6 category. He earned two gold awards in the Math Olympiad (Individual) and Math Mind Master (Team), as well as one silver medal in the Math Warriors (Team) event. With three international awards, he recorded the highest individual achievement within the Philippine delegation, demonstrating remarkable consistency, mathematical excellence, and collaborative skills throughout the competition.

(AMSLI), for their unwavering commitment to academic excellence. A total of 228 Filipino healthcare practitioners in Singapore successfully completed the 2026 TESDA Overseas Assessment Programme, strengthening the recognition of their professional skills through nationally recognised certifications. The initiative reflects the Philippine government’s continued commitment to making skills assessment more accessible for Filipinos working overseas.

A total of 228 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Singapore have successfully obtained Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) certifications after completing the 2026 Overseas Assessment Programme. Organised by TESDA in coordination with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO)-Singapore, the programme was conducted in two batches from 5 to 7 July 2026 and from 18 to 21 July 2026.

The competency assessments were held simultaneously at Care Academy and Aims Learning International, providing convenient access for Filipino professionals seeking formal recognition of their skills while working abroad. The programme focused on healthcare-related qualifications, reflecting the significant contribution of Filipino healthcare workers in Singapore.

During the assessments, participants underwent competency evaluations for Caregiving NC II, Caregiving (Elderly) NC II and Health Care Services NC II. These nationally recognised certifications validate the knowledge and practical skills of Filipino healthcare practitioners, enhancing their professional credentials and supporting future career opportunities both in Singapore and internationally.

The Overseas Assessment Programme forms part of the Philippine government’s ongoing efforts to make skills assessment and certification services more accessible to Filipinos working overseas. By bringing TESDA’s assessment services closer to migrant workers, the initiative helps ensure that their competencies are formally recognised and aligned with industry standards.

Organised by the Filipino community in Singapore, this year’s celebration was held under the theme “Fiestang Pinoy: Istoryang OFW”, paying tribute to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) whose courage, resilience, sacrifices, hope and unwavering love for their families continue to inspire communities both at home and abroad. The event highlighted the invaluable contributions of OFWs while fostering a strong sense of unity among Filipinos living overseas.

The festival brought together thousands of attendees for a vibrant celebration of Philippine culture, heritage and community spirit. Secretary Lazaro led the ASEAN Foreign Ministers through the Opening Ceremony, followed by the Plenary Session and the AMM Retreat. The new Sentro Rizal Singapore Library at the Philippine Embassy offers a dedicated cultural space showcasing Philippine history, literature and the arts, further strengthening cultural ties between the Philippines and Singapore.

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore officially inaugurated the Sentro Rizal Singapore Library on 16 July 2026, with First Lady H.E. Louise Araneta-Marcos leading the ceremony at the new Philippine Chancery on 20 Nassim Road. The opening marks another milestone in the Embassy’s cultural diplomacy efforts and forms part of the celebration of 15 years of Sentro Rizal, the Philippines’ flagship institution for promoting Filipino culture overseas. The library is the newest addition to Sentro Rizal Singapore, which was relaunched earlier this year through the Pasinaya programme.

Located within the Embassy, the library features an extensive collection of books covering Philippine history, literature, culture, the arts, national identity, politics, and the longstanding bilateral relationship between the Philippines and Singapore. Carefully curated artworks and cultural artefacts further enrich the space, creating an inviting environment where visitors can discover and appreciate the country’s heritage.

During the inauguration, First Lady H.E. Louise Araneta-Marcos described the library as “more than a collection of books” and a bridge connecting Filipinos abroad with their homeland. Accompanied by First Lady H.E. Louise Araneta-Marcos, the President toured the new Chancery, met with business executives, and highlighted the Philippine Government’s commitment to providing modern, accessible and responsive facilities for overseas Filipinos.

During the visit, President Marcos Jr. and the First Lady met members of the Future Economic Cooperation Council (FECC), continuing discussions initiated during the Global Economic Cooperation (GEC) East Summit held the previous day. The engagement reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to fostering stronger international economic partnerships and promoting sustained collaboration with global stakeholders.

The President also led a high-level dialogue with leading investors and business executives at the Embassy’s Sinagtala Hall under the Sampaguita Dialogue Series. During the visit, President Marcos Jr. and the First Lady signed commemorative photographs marking the completion of the Chancery redevelopment, concluding a three-year project that began with the President’s approval of the architectural design in September 2023.

President Marcos Jr. was in Singapore for a Working Visit from 14 to 16 July 2026, during which he met Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, engaged investors and business leaders, and addressed a private roundtable co-hosted by the Embassy and the Milken Institute. Meanwhile, the First Lady participated in the GEC East Summit, where she engaged with international business leaders and distinguished guests, further strengthening the Philippines’ economic and diplomatic ties with Singapore and the wider region.
