The High Commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical public service as part of Sri Lanka’s nationwide National Integrity Week initiative.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore joined the commencement of Sri Lanka’s National Integrity Week 2026 by participating in the national initiative, “A Culture of Integrity – A Clean Sri Lanka”, on 27 July.

As part of the observance, the High Commission’s staff read the National Integrity Pledge in both Sinhala and Tamil, reaffirming their commitment to upholding the values of transparency, integrity, accountability, and respect for the rule of law in line with Sri Lanka’s public service principles.

Led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, the national initiative seeks to strengthen the quality, efficiency, and transparency of the public service while promoting ethical values as the foundation of sustainable national development.

Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Aruni Ranaraja, addressed the gathering at the commencement of National Integrity Week, emphasising that integrity is demonstrated through everyday choices, accountability, fairness, and placing the public interest above personal interests. She also highlighted the Ministry’s role in representing Sri Lanka internationally through diplomacy, foreign employment, tourism, trade, and investment, noting that every interaction undertaken by the Ministry reflects on the country’s reputation.

Sri Lanka’s overseas missions and posts, including the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore, participated virtually in the national event, with more than 130 participants supporting the country’s integrity initiative.

ILTM Asia Pacific is a leading business-to-business travel exhibition that brings together luxury travel advisors, tour operators, destinations, hotels, and tourism organisations from around the world through pre-scheduled business appointments and networking opportunities. The event provided a platform for Sri Lanka to engage with international travel buyers and industry stakeholders while showcasing the country’s premium tourism experiences.

The Sri Lanka Pavilion, organised by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, featured a diverse range of luxury tourism offerings, including wildlife experiences, wellness and Ayurveda, cultural heritage, luxury accommodation, adventure tourism, and bespoke travel itineraries. The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore marked Vesak 2026 with religious observances, including an alms-giving and Dhamma sermon at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple, bringing together members of the Sri Lankan community and devotees.

Singapore, 16 May 2026 – The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore commemorated Vesak 2026 with a series of religious activities at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple on Saturday, 16 May 2026.

The observance began with the offering of Dahawal Dana (midday alms) to the resident monks of Sri Lankaramaya Viharaya. The religious programme continued in the evening with a Dhamma sermon attended by members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community, representatives of the Singapore Sinhala Buddhist Association, High Commission officials, and devotees.

The Dhamma sermon was delivered by Ven. D. Gnanarathana Thero, a resident monk of the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple, under the spiritual guidance of Ven. K. Rathanananda Nayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent of the temple.

During the sermon, Ven. Gnanarathana Thero reflected on the core teachings of Buddhism, including the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path, emphasizing the importance of applying these principles in daily life. The sermon encouraged devotees to cultivate wisdom, compassion, and ethical conduct in accordance with Buddhist teachings.

At the conclusion of the religious observance, blessings were invoked for the Government and people of Sri Lanka, the High Commissioner and staff of the High Commission, as well as all participants present at the event.

The occasion also honoured the memory of the late Hon. Lakshman Kadirgamar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, whose efforts were instrumental in securing international recognition of Vesak as a day of observance by the United Nations.

As part of Vesak week celebrations, the premises of the High Commission were decorated with Buddhist flags, colourful Vesak lanterns, and traditional festive adornments, creating a vibrant and spiritually uplifting atmosphere for visitors and worshippers.

The commemorative event highlighted the enduring significance of Vesak for Sri Lankans around the world and served as an opportunity for the community in Singapore to come together in reflection, prayer, and fellowship. Following the sermon, attendees were served light refreshments.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore organised “APOORVA: Unravel the Aesthetics of Sri Lanka”, a cultural evening and Ceylon tea promotion event, at Goodman Arts Centre in Singapore on 21 May 2026 to commemorate International Tea Day. The programme brought together members of the diplomatic corps, business community, and friends of Sri Lanka to showcase the country’s cultural heritage and tea industry while fostering people-to-people connections.

The event was organised in collaboration with the Apsaras Dance Company and formed part of the High Commission’s cultural outreach efforts in Singapore. The gathering was attended by more than 30 Heads of Mission, spouses of Heads of Mission, diplomats, representatives of the business community, and members of the Sri Lankan community and international friends. The tea promotion was supported by Dilmah Ceylon Tea PLC and 1872 Clipper Tea Co. Clipper Tea presented a range of hot and cold-brew tea varieties, while Dilmah Tea provided specially curated Ceylon tea gift packs for attendees.

Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Mr Eranga Weeraratne represented Sri Lanka at Asia Tech x Singapore 2026, strengthening international partnerships in AI, cybersecurity, fintech, and digital innovation.

Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Mr Eranga Weeraratne represented Sri Lanka at Asia Tech x Singapore 2026, which took place from 19 to 21 May 2026 at Capella Singapore.

During the three-day event, the Deputy Minister met senior government officials, technology industry leaders, academics, and members of the Sri Lankan professional community in Singapore. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), fintech, cybersecurity, innovation, and AI adoption.

The Deputy Minister also held discussions with Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore; Ms Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information; and Ms Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State at the Ministry of Digital Development and Information. Talks focused on AI governance, digital public infrastructure, and technology-driven economic growth.

A bilateral meeting was also held with Bui Hoang Phuong, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam. The meeting focused on cybersecurity cooperation, data and digital economy collaboration, and strengthening bilateral technology partnerships. During the discussions, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister invited the Sri Lankan delegation to undertake an official visit to Vietnam to further advance digital economy cooperation between the two countries.

Further meetings were held with representatives from , Adaptation AI, and on matters related to AI adoption, digital inclusion, innovation, and technology-driven development.

The visit also included engagements with Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, , and . Discussions centered on youth digital empowerment, public sector digital capability development, AI adoption, and strengthening Sri Lanka’s innovation ecosystem.

The Deputy Minister also met members of the Sri Lankan professional and technology community in Singapore at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore. Community members expressed interest in supporting Sri Lanka’s digital economy initiatives through mentorship, knowledge sharing, skills transfer, and collaborative projects.

The Sri Lankan delegation included HE Senarath Dissanayake, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore; Sanjaya Karunasena, Executive Director and Acting Chief Executive Officer of GovTech Sri Lanka; Bhagya Abeykoon; and Nuwandi Jayasuriya.

SRI LANKA’S 78TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATED IN SINGAPORE WITH A FLAG HOISTING CEREMONY AND MULTI-FAITH OBSERVANCES

SINGAPORE, 4 February 2026 — The 78th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence was commemorated with a Flag Hoisting Ceremony at the SEAMEO Regional Language Centre (RELC) Auditorium in Singapore. The event was attended by members of the Maha Sangha, religious dignitaries representing the Hindu, Islamic and Catholic faiths, representatives of Sri Lankan associations and societies, and members of the Sri Lankan community in Singapore.

The ceremony began with the hoisting of the National Flag by Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Mr Senarath Dissanayake, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. A two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of national heroes, after which multi-faith religious observances were conducted to invoke blessings for the Government and the people of Sri Lanka.

Independence Day messages from His Excellency the President, the Honourable Prime Minister, and the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism were read during the ceremony, with copies made available to attendees in Sinhala, Tamil and English. In his remarks, High Commissioner Dissanayake highlighted the theme “Rebuilding Sri Lanka”, underscoring national resilience and collective responsibility in overcoming challenges, including the recent Cyclone Ditwah. He also noted the Government’s focus on economic recovery, inclusive development, good governance, sustainability and digital transformation, as well as positive progress in exports, foreign direct investment and tourism in 2025.

More than a pitch for capital, the Port City Colombo Investor Forum in Singapore became a narrative of renewal, confidence, and Sri Lanka’s evolving place in the global economy.

On 27 January 2026, Sri Lanka brought its story of transformation to Singapore, as policymakers, investors, and business leaders gathered at Casuarina, Shangri-La for the Exclusive Port City Colombo Investor Forum, hosted by the High Commission of Sri Lanka to Singapore.

The forum was not framed as a simple investment roadshow. Instead, it was positioned as a conversation about where Sri Lanka has been, what it has learned, and how it is reshaping its future. At the centre of this narrative was Port City Colombo, a purpose-built extension of the capital that reflects the country’s ambition to move decisively into high-value global services.

Opening the forum, His Excellency Senarath Dissanayake, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore, described Port City Colombo as a once-in-a-generation opportunity. Strategically located along one of the world’s busiest East–West maritime corridors, the city is designed to function as a global financial and business hub, supported by a distinct legal, fiscal, and regulatory framework aligned with international standards.

As the discussions unfolded, the forum traced Sri Lanka’s journey from crisis to confidence. Hon. Hanif Yusoof, Governor of the Western Province and Presidential Special Envoy for Foreign Investment, addressed the economic challenges the country faced just three years ago. Inflation had surged, reserves had fallen, and growth had sharply contracted. Today, he said, the picture is markedly different. Inflation has stabilised, growth has returned, and Sri Lanka’s recovery has been recognised by international institutions as one of the fastest economic turnarounds in recent times.

Yet, speakers were careful to stress that this moment is not about recovery alone. As one message echoed throughout the forum, Sri Lanka is not merely rebounding – it is transforming. Structural reforms, a strengthened constitutional framework, and the creation of an independent central bank were presented as evidence of a long-term shift towards discipline, transparency, and predictability.

That sense of permanence was reinforced by Mr. Harsha Amarasekara, Chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, who outlined the legislative backbone supporting Port City Colombo. Established by law and governed by an independent commission, the zone operates with a single-window investment framework, regulatory clarity, and investor-centred governance. Trust, he noted, is the most valuable currency for investors, and Port City Colombo has been designed with that principle at its core.

The forum also reflected the growing alignment between Sri Lanka and Singapore. Mr. Neil Parekh, Deputy Chairman and CEO of GFTN Capital, spoke of how Singapore-based investors increasingly look beyond opportunity alone, focusing instead on policy clarity, governance standards, and execution credibility. In this context, Sri Lanka’s reforms and the Western Province’s positioning as a financial and commercial hub have begun to resonate more strongly with long-term institutional capital.

From an industry perspective, Mr. Anthony Chua, CEO of the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore, highlighted the discipline behind Port City Colombo’s master planning. From climate-sensitive design to internationally benchmarked urban planning, the project’s steady transition from vision to reality was seen as a signal of seriousness and commitment.

The forum also featured leading global partners. Keppel, a global asset manager and operator established in 1968, was highlighted for its deep capabilities in infrastructure, real estate, and connectivity. Operating in over 20 countries, Keppel is structured around fund management, investment, and operating platforms. Listed on the Singapore Exchange since 1980, Keppel counts Temasek as a major shareholder, with a 20.4% direct stake, underscoring strong institutional backing.

Port City Colombo is more than a development project. It represents Sri Lanka’s strategic shift toward high-value global services and its intent to offer investors a stable, transparent, and future-ready platform for long-term growth.

SINGAPORE, 1 January 2026 — The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore ceremonially commenced work for the year 2026 in accordance with government directives on the resumption of duties by public institutions for the New Year.

A Pirith chanting ceremony was held at the Chancery, conducted by the Venerable Monks of the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple in Singapore, led by the Chief Monk, Venerable K. Rathanananda Nayaka Thero.

Official proceedings began with the hoisting of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem, followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of members of the Tri-Forces and others who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

The staff of the Mission then took the Public Service Oath, reaffirming their commitment to unity, accountability and resilience in the face of challenges, guided by the national vision of “a thriving country and a beautiful life”, while carrying out their duties efficiently and productively.

Addressing the staff, High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake underscored the importance of an integrated, citizen-centred and results-oriented public service, particularly as Sri Lanka continues its recovery and rebuilding efforts following Cyclone Ditwah. He highlighted the need for motivation, teamwork and professionalism at the outset of 2026 to effectively address emerging challenges.

The ceremony concluded with a traditional breakfast to mark the dawn of the New Year.
