The Swiss Deep Tech Report 2026 highlighted Switzerland’s leading role in deep tech investment, artificial intelligence and university spinouts.

Switzerland directed 63 per cent of its venture capital investment towards deep technology, the highest share of any country in the world, according to the Swiss Deep Tech Report 2026. The figure placed Switzerland ahead of China at 56 per cent and the United States at 54 per cent.

The report found that Switzerland ranked among the world’s top three countries for deep tech investment per capita, with US$1,470 invested per person. Deep tech funding in the country increased fivefold over the past decade, reaching a record US$2.6 billion in 2025.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning accounted for one in four new startups established in Switzerland since 2022, while robotics emerged as one of the country’s fastest-growing deep tech sectors. The report also noted that ETH Zurich and EPFL produced more venture-backed deep tech spinouts than any other university in Europe.

International investors continued to play a significant role in Switzerland’s deep tech ecosystem. According to the report, 88 per cent of funding for Swiss deep tech investment rounds exceeding US$100 million came from foreign investors, with investors from the United States providing more than half of late-stage capital.

According to the Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore, some of the most consequential technology companies of the next decade, spanning artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology and quantum computing, were being built in Switzerland today.

Ambassadorial transition, digital economy cooperation, AI innovation and Swiss Weeks 2026 featured prominently in Switzerland’s engagements with Singapore

The Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore highlighted a month of significant diplomatic, economic and cultural engagements in April, underscoring the growing partnership between Switzerland and Singapore across innovation, sustainability, trade, education and community collaboration.

A key diplomatic highlight during the month was the conclusion of Ambassador Frank Grütter’s four-year tenure as Switzerland’s Ambassador to Singapore. Ambassador Grütter will now take up his new appointment as Switzerland’s Ambassador to the United Nations in New York.

Reflecting on his tenure, the Embassy noted that Switzerland and Singapore further strengthened bilateral cooperation in areas including digital trade, finance, research and innovation. Key milestones highlighted included the EFTA–Singapore Digital Economy Agreement and the Future of Investment and Trade Partnership (FIT-P), alongside continued collaboration through international platforms such as the Point Zero Forum and the St. Gallen Symposium Singapore Forum.

The Embassy also highlighted developments during Ambassador Grütter’s tenure such as the inauguration of the renovated Swiss Embassy and the first Swiss-themed floral display at Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome.

Beginning 4 May, Mr Edgar Doerig assumed the role of Chargé d’affaires ad interim until the arrival of incoming Ambassador Alexandra Baumann later this year.

Innovation and technology cooperation also featured strongly throughout April. The Embassy highlighted Switzerland’s position as a global innovation leader, noting that the country ranked first globally for 15 consecutive years in the Global Innovation Index, while Singapore ranked fifth.

The Embassy further showcased Switzerland’s growing artificial intelligence ecosystem through initiatives led by ETH Zurich and EPFL under the Swiss AI Initiative. The initiative brings together researchers, startups and industry partners to strengthen Switzerland’s AI research capabilities through large-scale AI models and advanced computing infrastructure.

Central to these efforts is “Alps,” Switzerland’s flagship supercomputer operated by the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre, supporting research in AI, climate science, physics and life sciences. The Embassy also highlighted the development of Apertus, an open multilingual large language model designed to promote transparent and collaborative AI research.

Sustainability and climate cooperation remained another major focus during the month. The Embassy highlighted Switzerland’s strong environmental performance, including its global leadership in air quality, drinking water and sanitation standards. Switzerland also reaffirmed its international climate commitments through CHF 1.6 billion allocated toward climate targets under its 2025–2028 cooperation strategy and CHF 135 million pledged to the Green Climate Fund.

The Embassy additionally highlighted Switzerland’s pioneering role in bilateral carbon market agreements under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, including partnerships across the Asia-Pacific region, as well as sustainability projects ranging from water management in Central Asia to climate resilience programmes in the Mekong region.

Public diplomacy and cultural engagement activities also featured prominently through the ongoing Swiss Weeks 2026 celebrations.

One of the flagship events was “Food for Thought: A Swiss Culinary Innovation Soirée,” held at the Capitol Theatre, which officially opened Swiss Weeks 2026. The event brought together over 200 guests and leading Swiss-linked innovators in food technology, sustainability and hospitality, including Nestlé, Barry Callebaut, Bühler and dsm-firmenich.

The event also showcased Swiss culinary heritage through a curated buffet prepared by The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore using locally sourced Singaporean ingredients.

Swiss Weeks 2026 additionally featured family and community events including sustainability programmes at Kampung Kampus in Yishun, Swiss cooking classes, yoga fundraising sessions supporting survivors of violence, and the Swiss School Singapore’s flea market and community activities.

The Embassy also announced its participation in the 35th European Film Festival, presenting the acclaimed Swiss-German drama “Late Shift (Die Heldin),” directed by Petra Volpe. The award-winning film explores challenges faced by healthcare workers and nursing shortages globally.

Through diplomatic cooperation, innovation partnerships, sustainability initiatives and cultural outreach, the Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore continued to deepen Switzerland-Singapore relations and strengthen engagement with both the Swiss community and wider Singaporean society throughout April.

The ‘Media Leaders’ programme begins with a five-day training camp at EHL Hospitality Business School, aimed at strengthening Saudi Arabia’s media presence on the global stage.

The Saudi Media Academy, under the Ministry of Media, has launched the first phase of its ‘Media Leaders’ Track in Switzerland through an intensive training programme in global event management. The initiative is being delivered in partnership with EHL Hospitality Business School, ranked as the world’s top university for hospitality management by the QS World University Rankings.

The launch included the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the academy and EHL, attended by Assistant Minister of Media and Chairman of the Academy’s Board, Dr Abdullah bin Ahmed Al-Maghlouth, alongside senior officials. The agreement aims to build international collaboration, promote cultural and knowledge exchange, and support national talent in line with the ministry’s vision.

The MoU was signed by Academy Chief Executive Khalid Zain Al-Abdeen and EHL Associate Dean of Executive Education Programmes Stéphane Haddad. The five-day programme features hands-on workshops led by international experts and site visits to world-class event institutions, with a focus on planning, organising, and delivering major events, alongside leadership and audience engagement skills.

This initiative marks the first stage of a four-part training track. It will be followed by a digital advertising course in Riyadh, an international media camp in Singapore, and an advanced leadership communication strategies course.

Targeting professionals and creatives across sectors, the programme seeks to enhance Saudi Arabia’s media capabilities, strengthen the management of national events, and elevate the Kingdom’s presence at global forums, supporting the wider objectives of Vision 2030.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) collaborates with regulatory bodies in Japan, Switzerland, and the UK to advance digital asset pilots, focusing on fixed income, foreign exchange, and asset management products.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has announced a strategic partnership with the Financial Services Agency of Japan (FSA), the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), and the United Kingdom’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to propel digital asset innovation in fixed income, foreign exchange, and asset management sectors.

Under MAS’ Project Guardian, 15 prominent financial institutions have joined forces to conduct industry pilots on asset tokenization within these key areas. These pilots have demonstrated promising potential in achieving significant market and transaction efficiencies through the utilization of tokenization technology. As these initiatives continue to expand in scale and complexity, there arises a crucial need for enhanced cross-border collaboration among policymakers and regulators. In response to this, MAS has established the Project Guardian policymaker group, comprising FSA, FCA, and FINMA.

The primary objectives of this policymaker group are to: a) Advance discussions on the legal, policy, and accounting treatment of digital assets; b) Identify potential risks and address existing policy and legislative gaps relevant to tokenized solutions; c) Pave the way for the development of common standards governing the design of digital asset networks and market best practices across diverse jurisdictions; d) Champion high standards of interoperability to bolster the development of cross-border digital assets; e) Facilitate industry pilots for digital assets through regulatory sandboxes, where applicable; and f) Promote knowledge sharing among regulators and industry stakeholders.
