As ASEAN marks the 31st anniversary of Vietnam’s membership, the country continues to play a leading role in implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, strengthening regional cooperation, connectivity, and sustainable development.

As ASEAN commemorates the 31st anniversary of Vietnam’s accession on 28 July 2026, the country has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 by driving regional cooperation and translating long-term strategic goals into concrete action. According to Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to ASEAN, the country has been actively developing implementation plans, strengthening monitoring mechanisms, and enhancing cross-sectoral coordination to support ASEAN’s next phase of development.

Vietnam has also introduced initiatives aimed at reinforcing ASEAN solidarity, improving regional resilience, accelerating digital and green transitions, addressing climate change, and enhancing food and energy security. Domestically, the country has integrated the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 into its socio-economic development strategies and is among the first ASEAN members to launch a National Action Programme for 2026–2030 to implement the Vision and its Strategic Plans.

On the economic front, Ambassador Ton highlighted the opportunities presented by the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and ASEAN’s extensive network of free trade agreements. These frameworks provide Vietnamese businesses with greater access to regional and global markets while supporting deeper participation in international supply chains. Viet Nam also aims to leverage the ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (ACIA) to attract high-value investment and strengthen its position in advanced manufacturing and technology-driven industries.

The Ambassador further emphasised the importance of regional connectivity initiatives, including the ASEAN Power Grid, the ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan 2045, and the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), which is expected to be signed later this year. These initiatives are designed to enhance energy cooperation, improve transport and digital infrastructure, facilitate trusted cross-border data flows, and create a more integrated regional digital economy, benefiting businesses of all sizes.

Looking ahead, Vietnam sees ASEAN cooperation in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum technology, renewable energy, the circular economy, and climate resilience as essential to driving sustainable growth. At the ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to deeper regional cooperation, urging stronger economic integration, connectivity, and resilience to address emerging global challenges.

Vietnam has called for enhanced cooperation among ASEAN+3 countries to strengthen regional connectivity and resilience amid growing global uncertainties. Speaking at the ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung emphasised the importance of deepening economic integration through the effective implementation of existing trade agreements while reinforcing ASEAN+3 as a key platform for regional stability and sustainable development.

During the meeting, Minister Le highlighted the need to strengthen collaboration in energy security, food security, and regional connectivity. He proposed exploring a joint regional energy cooperation agreement to improve preparedness against external shocks, while encouraging China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea to expand support for ASEAN in areas such as digital transformation, technological innovation, electric vehicles, clean energy, and low-carbon development.

Against the backdrop of geopolitical and economic uncertainties, ASEAN+3 ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing regional resilience through closer economic cooperation and stronger implementation of the ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation Work Plan 2023–2027. Discussions also covered expanding regional rice reserves, exploring a shared petroleum reserve, strengthening renewable energy cooperation, and investing in education, workforce development, cultural exchanges, and tourism to build long-term regional capacity.

At the 64th ASEAN National Tourism Organizations Meeting in Singapore, Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to regional collaboration, proposing practical measures to strengthen tourism resilience, sustainability, and connectivity across ASEAN.

Vietnam has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing regional tourism cooperation during the 64th ASEAN National Tourism Organizations (NTOs) and Related Meeting held in Singapore on 9 July. Led by Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai, the Vietnamese delegation joined ASEAN members in discussing the implementation of the ASEAN Tourism Sectoral Plan (ATSP) 2026–2030, which aims to build a more resilient, inclusive, digitally enabled, and sustainable tourism sector.

During the meeting, delegates addressed the challenges facing regional tourism, including geopolitical uncertainties, rising aviation and energy costs, and disruptions to international travel. Vietnam reaffirmed its leadership in two priority initiatives under the ATSP framework: promoting ASEAN Quality Tourism branding and showcasing low-carbon and circular economy tourism models, while encouraging other member states to accelerate the implementation of the remaining strategic initiatives.

Highlighting Vietnam’s strong tourism recovery, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai noted that the country welcomed nearly 12.3 million international visitors during the first six months of 2026, representing a 14.9 per cent year-on-year increase. She proposed three key measures to strengthen ASEAN’s tourism resilience: promoting intra-ASEAN travel, enhancing aviation cooperation and regional connectivity, and jointly positioning ASEAN as “a safe, diverse and welcoming destination” to reinforce traveller confidence and boost the region’s global competitiveness.

The meeting also reviewed efforts to strengthen regional tourism cooperation through updated policy frameworks, improved transport connectivity, and closer collaboration with international organisations and private-sector partners. Guided by the READS framework—Resilient tourism, Empowered tourism workforce, Accessible and seamless travel, Digital tourism and market diversification, and Sustainable tourism—the ATSP 2026–2030 is expected to drive ASEAN’s long-term vision of becoming a high-quality and future-ready tourism destination.

Coastal destinations continued to dominate travel preferences among Vietnamese travellers in the first half of 2026, with Da Nang emerging as the country’s most sought-after domestic destination.

As the first half of 2026 came to a close, new search data from Booking.com revealed that Vietnam’s coastal cities remained the top choice for domestic travellers. Covering the period from January to June—including ��ết, spring holidays, and the start of summer—the findings reflect a strong preference for beach holidays alongside cultural and nature-based experiences. Iconic attractions such as Hạ Long Bay also continue to reinforce Vietnam’s appeal as one of Southeast Asia’s leading travel destinations.

Da Nang ranked as the most-searched domestic destination, recording a 25 per cent year-on-year increase in accommodation searches. The coastal city continues to attract visitors with its beaches, vibrant food scene, and proximity to Hội An and ���ế. Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang followed in second and third place, while Ninh Bình, Nha Trang, and Phú Qu��� each saw search growth of more than 20 per cent compared with the same period last year. Emerging destinations such as Quy Nhơn, Cam Ranh, and Cần Thơ also experienced rising interest among travellers.

According to Booking.com’s travel research, 92 per cent of Vietnamese travellers consider access to a great beach an important factor when choosing a holiday destination, explaining the continued popularity of coastal locations. The top ten most-searched domestic destinations were Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Đà Lạt, Hà Nội, Vũng Tàu, Phú Qu���, Hội An, ���ế, and Ninh Bình, reflecting Vietnam’s diverse tourism offerings, from bustling cities and historic towns to picturesque coastlines and natural landscapes.

Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with Singapore as senior political leaders met on the sidelines of the ASEAN Future Forum 2026 to advance dialogue, leadership development, and regional collaboration.

Vietnam took another step towards strengthening its long-standing partnership with Singapore as Đoàn Minh Huấn, Politburo Member and President of the Hồ Chí Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), received Lee Hong Chuang, Member of Parliament from Singapore’s People’s Action Party (PAP), during his working visit to Hà Nội. The meeting was held following a seminar on the role of Southeast Asian political parties in building the ASEAN Community, organised as part of the third ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) from 7 to 9 June 2026.

During the meeting, President Đoàn Minh Huấn described the visit as a reflection of the enduring friendship and close cooperation between the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) and the People’s Action Party (PAP), as well as the broader strategic partnership between Viet Nam and Singapore. He commended Singapore’s achievements in economic development, social welfare, and public administration, noting that these experiences offer valuable insights for Viet Nam’s leadership development and governance. He also expressed hope that Singapore would continue supporting Viet Nam in training leadership and management personnel through cooperation between HCMA, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, and other academic and research institutions.

Both sides also discussed strengthening institutional cooperation through the effective implementation of existing high-level agreements, increased exchanges between party leaders, and the establishment of the first Viet Nam–Singapore Strategic Dialogue. President Đoàn Minh Huấn highlighted the importance of expanding collaboration in scientific research, public policy, strategic studies, and academic exchanges to further reinforce bilateral ties. These initiatives reflect the growing emphasis both countries place on knowledge sharing and capacity building as part of their comprehensive partnership.

For his part, Lee Hong Chuang praised Viet Nam’s rapid socio-economic development and welcomed the country’s initiative in organising the seminar under the ASEAN Future Forum. He noted that the event provided political parties across Southeast Asia with an important platform to exchange experiences, strengthen mutual understanding, and contribute to the vision of a people-centred ASEAN Community.
