Singapore, 17 October 2025 鈥 The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore hosted a discussion and soft launch of a new book highlighting the evolving bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore. Held on 17 October 2025, the event drew academics, diplomats, and members of the Indonesian community in Singapore.
The newly introduced book, titled 鈥淭he Next Chapter: Envisioning the Future of Indonesia鈥揝ingapore Relations鈥, offers a thoughtful reflection on the past and future trajectory of cooperation between the two nations. The event featured two distinguished diplomatic figures 鈥 Dr Marty Natalegawa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (2009鈥2014), and Professor Tommy Koh, senior Singaporean diplomat 鈥 with Professor Leo Suryadinata, Senior Fellow at the ISEAS鈥揧usof Ishak Institute, serving as moderator. All three have long been recognised for their enduring contributions to strengthening the diplomatic and academic ties between Indonesia and Singapore.

During the lively and insightful discussion, the speakers emphasised the need for both historical reflection and forward-looking perspectives to foster a mutually beneficial partnership. Dr Marty Natalegawa underlined that Indonesia鈥揝ingapore relations should continue to be grounded in mutual respect and a dynamic strategic partnership. Meanwhile, Professor Tommy Koh highlighted the importance of deepening collaboration in the areas of economy, education, and people-to-people ties as the foundation of bilateral strength.
Published by Penerbit Buku Kompas, the book comprises 14 essays by prominent Indonesian and Singaporean scholars and policymakers. Edited by Professor Leo Suryadinata and Dr Siwage Dharma Negara, it presents a comprehensive analysis of the bilateral relationship through multiple lenses 鈥 political, economic, social, and cultural.
Through these diverse perspectives, 鈥淭he Next Chapter鈥 aims to serve as an essential reference for academics, diplomats, and policymakers seeking a deeper understanding of the evolving Indonesia鈥揝ingapore relationship.
