New SAF officers completed 38 weeks of training and assumed responsibilities in command, instruction and staff appointments.
Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo reviewed the 142/25 Officer Cadet Course Commissioning Parade at the SAFTI Military Institute, where 219 cadets were commissioned as officers of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). The cohort comprised 160 cadets from the Singapore Army and 59 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force.

Speaking at the parade, Minister Teo highlighted the responsibilities that come with military command and the importance of character in leadership. She said, “Rank may give you the authority to lead. But it is your character and actions that will earn the trust of your colleagues.
Minister Teo also called on the newly commissioned officers to uphold their responsibility to defend Singapore and safeguard the country’s way of life. She said, “This evening, Singapore entrusts you with the privilege of command. Tomorrow, you begin earning the trust that gives it meaning.

The commissioning parade followed 38 weeks of training at the Officer Cadet School. During the course, the cadets underwent realistic training designed to develop their combat, planning and leadership skills in preparation for their future roles in the SAF.
The newly commissioned officers will take on command, instructional or staff appointments in the Singapore Armed Forces. Their responsibilities will include leading personnel and carrying out duties in support of the SAF’s operational requirements.
Chief of Army Major-General Cai Dexian, senior SAF officers, and the families and friends of the newly commissioned officers also attended the parade.
The ceremony marked the completion of the cadets’ Officer Cadet Course and their transition into commissioned service. In her speech, Minister Teo emphasised that the authority associated with military rank must be supported by the trust earned through responsible leadership and conduct.
