
Rwanda and UNICEF discussed responsible AI, digital education and child-safe digital infrastructure.
Rwanda High Commissioner to Singapore H.E. Innocent B. Muhizi hosted UNICEF Global CIO and Director of Digital Impact Mr. Kaan Cetinturk and UNICEF Regional Chief of Digital Impact for East Asia and the Pacific Mr. Deepak Bhaskaran during Tech Week Singapore 2026. The meeting, held in Singapore, focused on digital innovation and opportunities for collaboration between Rwanda and UNICEF, particularly in the use of emerging technologies for children.
The discussion took place on the sidelines of Tech Week Singapore 2026, which was underway in Singapore. It examined several areas of common interest, including AI literacy and education for children, child-safe and responsible artificial intelligence, AI applications in education and public service delivery, and Child-Safe Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).
High Commissioner Muhizi met with the UNICEF representatives to discuss how digital innovation could support Rwanda鈥檚 priorities in the technology sector while addressing issues related to the safe and inclusive use of artificial intelligence.
The discussion also covered the role of AI in education and public services, with particular attention to applications that could benefit children. Child-safe approaches to emerging technologies were among the areas highlighted, alongside the development of digital public infrastructure designed with children鈥檚 safety in mind.
The engagement underscored a shared commitment to ensuring that AI and other emerging technologies are developed and deployed in ways that are safe, inclusive and beneficial for children.
The meeting also supported discussions related to Rwanda鈥檚 vision of becoming a leading hub for digital innovation in Africa. By engaging with UNICEF鈥檚 global and regional digital leadership during Tech Week Singapore 2026, the discussion provided an opportunity to explore areas where digital innovation, education and public service delivery intersect with child-focused technology priorities.
